Brrr, the outside temperature sensor in my truck this morning told me it was -3 this morning.  Unlike many Mainer’s I’m a huge cold weather fan.

Cold temperatures means freezing temperatures and with that usually comes snow which is needed for one of my favorite winter activities: snowmobiling!

Environmental Monitoring Makes Us Freeze

To ensure that Ravica’s products are of high quality, we test the equipment.  We want to confirm that our environmental monitoring sensors will work properly within the environments and requirements that our customers may have.

Snuggies are unnecessary with good temperature sensors. At present, we are testing the alarming features and the threshold parameters for our device’s temperature monitoring function.  We want to ensure the device will alarm and send notifications when our office temperature drops below the set parameters.

However, we didn’t set the parameters for customary office temperatures.  That would be too easy.  Read more

Environmental Monitoring Sensors: More Than Just Fancy Smoke Detectors

During a conversation this week, an associate of mine explained that his business is growing exponentially.  His operation expanded from 5 locations to 18 locations in just 2 years.  Considering the national economy during this last 2 years, I found this to be an astonishing and noble feat.  But then he casually mentioned something else:  one of his centers recently lost data due to a water leak.  He mentioned it almost in passing, as if losses of this nature were to be occasionally expected.

Sadly, this type of water damage is fairly common.  Not as common as the Old Spice Guy videos on YouTube, but common nonetheless.   Read more

When considering a commercial grade temperature monitoring solution, which will assist with your environmental monitoring goals, I think the following should be kept in mind when choosing the right temperature sensor.

Let’s take a look at a list of specifications to consider when choosing hardware:

See a Ravica SensorProbe live in the wild!

Did you know that you can see how Ravica SensorProbes work, without even leaving your desk? All you have to do is click the SecurityProbe Online Demo link on the front page and you will be able to see temperature and humidity  sensors from our own data room.

You can even see how easy it is to view your data room remotely with the integrated Ravica Security Cams.

Map your probes:

You can easily map the location of your probes via the mapping interface. This dynamic interface will not only tell you the status of your environmental monitors, but will also give you clickable links that give you more information.

How to monitor data room temperature

Data room temperature monitoring can can involve more than just hanging a thermometer on the wall. Measurements should be taken from at least two locations

Isn’t as simple as a thermometer. There a little issue called airflow monitoring that needs to be in places as well. If you already own a BitSight or SensorProbe, you probably have a spare port.

environmental monitoring solutions

Why not add another temperature sensor for across the room or an airflow sensor so that you have a more ambient environmental monitoring solution for very little money?
